• Dorchester Publishing to Stop Printing Books
August 09, 2010 Dorchester Publishing Inc. announced that it’s abandoning traditional print books and making its titles available in digital format and print-on-demand only. The company, one of the oldest mass paperback publishers, said the move was made partially due to declining book unit sales, which fell 25% last year.
The Wall Street Journal suggested that other small publishers could go the same route, which makes one wonder, will this become a trend? Is it a good move? How many other publishing companies will follow suit? Will this sort of change be the secret to having healthy media companies? And how much will the iPad influence it all?
