Quantum Principal Erica Gruen notes in Adweek story the highly competitve nature of publishers becoming marketing agencies

The women's newsletter publisher theSkimm is launching a creative agency, SKM Lab. They are joining many others in attempting to make their branded content division into a client-facing business. Erica Gruen, Quantum Media's expert in advertisng and agencies said that  “The challenge is that this agency will have a lot of competition, including from other publishers like Condé Nast, who have bigger audiences and more resources. They are going to have to be small but mighty.”
